As the oldest law firm in Florida, the Bedell Firm has a well-established tradition of excellence in federal and state court litigation. Among our firm’s capable attorneys is John G. Woodlee.

John Woodlee specializes in civil litigation. He has experience at the trial and appellate levels in a variety of complex matters, including contract and other business disputes, actions to enforce non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, wrongful death lawsuits, insurance coverage disputes, and land use litigation.

Background

John joined the Bedell Firm in 2012 after serving as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Gerald B. Tjoflat, a circuit judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

John graduated summa cum laude from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and English and magna cum laude from Duke University School of Law, where he served as an Articles Editor of the Duke Law Journal and was a member of the Order of the Coif. During his time with the Bedell Firm, John has quickly developed a reputation for his ability to tease out critical nuances from complicated legal issues and his grasp of the subtleties of appellate procedure.

Accomplishments

John is currently a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association’s Appellate Law and Commercial Litigation Committees, the Jacksonville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Appellate Practice and Trial Lawyers Sections of the Florida Bar.

John’s article, “District Court Review of Mandamus Proceedings in Land-Use Litigation: Certiorari or Appeal?,” was published in the Florida Bar Journal’s Appellate Practice column in 2020. Further accomplishments were recognized in John’s feature as a “Leader in the Law” in the Jacksonville Daily Record.

Community Involvement

John served as President of the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid Board of Directors in 2019 and as Vice President in 2018. Jacksonville Area Legal Aid helps provide free legal services for low-income clients in Jacksonville and the surrounding area, bringing much-needed legal assistance to one of the state’s most vulnerable populations. John has also provided pro bono representation in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Community Coalition, Inc., a nonprofit that serves residents of Kings Ridge Apartments, which is located in a historically underserved area.
